Compensation
As a judge your behavior and actions are constantly monitored by the coaches, gymnast, parents, volunteers and runners. Be careful that your behavior to coaches and gymnast while on the floor or in uniform are professional. What you say is ALWAYS overheard by someone! Make sure your comments are always positive and not critical.

  • Judges should report thirty minutes prior to march-in for local and invitational competitions, unless specified by the SJD. A $5.00 fine will be deducted from the check of any official who does not report fifteen minutes prior to march-in.


  • Reporting time for state competitions (requiring video analysis) may be up to one hour prior to march-in. The reporting time will be specified by the SJD. A $5.00 fine will be deducted from the check of any official who does not report within fifteen minutes of the report time.


  • Fees are paid based on the contracted march-in time until the last score of the session is submitted. The Chief Judge is responsible for checking the scores/average submitted.


  • A portion of the hourly rate may be broken into halves, not less. Round off to the nearest half hour (i.e. 9:01 to 9:14 will be considered as 9:00; 9:15-9:29 will be considered 9:30).


  • The above fees will be applicable for all USAG sanctioned events.


  • The judges' compensation package is in effect each August by USAG.


  • If judging begins before the maximum allotted break time has elapsed, judging time begins.


  • A Meet Referee/Chief Judge shall receive an additional $10.00 per day at USAG State, Regional, East/West and National Championships ONLY.


  • No dual compensation is given if the Meet Referee also serves as a Chief Judge.


  • The Meet Referee shall be paid the hourly fee for the time during which she/he is conducting official Meet Referee responsibilities (explanation of daily fees in this manual).


  • Judges will be paid an hourly fee, according to their rating, with a minimum of two hours. A minimum payment of 3 hours will be made if mileage is over 100 miles one way.


  • Recommended break time:
    • after 3 1/2-4 hours = minimum of 30 minutes
    • after 7 hours = minimum of 45 minutes

  • Mileage is $.37 a mile. A change in mileage is effective in January each year according to recommended mileage by the IRS.
