Meets
A judge will be assigned to meets if copies of all current membership cards are
on file with the Active Status Coordinator (Phyllis Thompson) and a judge has
fulfilled all active status requirements (see Judge Resume section of this manual).
Availability Forms and Contracts
Availability forms will be sent to judges two times each year, once in the early
summer to determine your availability for fall meets and once in the early fall
to determine availability for spring meets.
When a meet becomes available, it is assigned in the following manner:
When a meet becomes available, it is assigned in the following manner:
- Meet Directors preference
- Level of the meet (judges assigned will have appropriate rating)
- Location of the meet
- Carpool arrangements
- Assignments adjusted to provide NAWGJ members minimum of three (3) meets for active status
Meet Information
Approximately 7-10 days prior to the meet assigned, the assigner will send you the information
you will need to judge the meet: location, reporting time, event assignment, hotel arrangements,
carpools, meals, etc. Please read the information carefully and make certain you understand all
information. If you are assigned to a hotel room and do not show up for the room as specified
on your contract, you will be charged for your portion of the cost of the room. If you do not
need the hotel room for the night(s) specified on the meet information sheet, CALL THE ASSIGNER
immediately to avoid getting charged for the room!
Once you know what event you will be judging, it is important that you take the time to prepare and knowledgeable of all rules and updates. It is your responsibility to provide your own supplies, not the Meet Director.
By the end of long meets, you may have a hard time looking alert. Try to maintain food posture throughout the entire meet and not sit with your head resting on your hand or slumped down in your chair.

Replacements
Once a contract is signed, judges are expected to honor the contractual agreement to judge the
meet. In the event an emergency occurs and you are unable to judge the meet for which you have
signed a contract, it is your responsibility to call the assigner. Judges can not replace
themselves on a meet. Only the assigner knows all the circumstances of a particular meet:
judges approved/not approved by the Meet Director, hotel and travel accommodations and changes
to such by other judges; active status of the replacement judge, impact of changes on Chief
Judge assignments, etc.
If you must pull off a meet, you must pull off the entire meet. It is NOT permissible to judge one day and bring in a replacement for another day. The only people who have the authority to do this are the SJD.

Payment
The Meet Referee assigned to your meet will determine the number of hours for which you will
receive payment. During the meet, she will explain to every judge how to fill out your judge's
vouchers for payment. An explanation of the USAG Judge s Compensation package is listed in USA
Gymnastics Women's Program Rules & Policies.
State Meet Assignments
Judging panels for state meets are chosen by the State USAG Board based on the following factors:
- Availability of judge
- Head judge availability, most experienced judges assigned first
- Rating of judge
- Active judging of USAG meets during current season at appropriate level
- Professional development activities of judges (clinics, training camp, etc.)
- Geography and carpooling arrangements
- Affiliation (not assigned as Chief Judge if affiliated)
- Contributions to State Associations (USAG, NAWGJ)
Regional Meet Assignments
In order to be eligible to judge a regional meet in Region 8, a judge must have in-gym experience
in addition to meeting all other active status requirements. Each experience must be a minimum
of two hours. The level of gymnastics must be equal to or greater than the level of the meet the
judge wishes to be considered. A maximum of three (3) hours may be from a Regional, National
Elite, or JO Training Camp. A training Camp may only count for either in-gym experience or
clinic experience but not both. A small random sample of in-gym cards is selected each year for
audit purposes.
Regional assignments are determined by RTCC in consultation with the USAG Regional Board. Judges for Level 10 Regionals are selected from among the most qualified, regardless of state.
